‘A Woman Left Lonely’ -The Songs and Sadness of Janis Joplin
27th-29th September, Hyde Festival Theatre
T his new play from award winning writer Rob Johnston, from an original concept by Peter Wright, takes us to the last few months of 1960’s icon, Janis Joplin’s, life. Janis tragically died from a drug overdose on October 4th 1970 at the age of 27.
She shunned the inward looking, conformist life of Port Arthur, Texas, where she always felt she was an outsider, to become one of rock music’s greatest ever performers who is still revered today. Featuring 14 songs from her back catalogue, this one woman play takes on the emotional roller coaster that was Janis Joplin’s life.
Janis will be played by Linzi Matthews whose credits include Blood Brothers (West End & national tour), Loot at Hull Truck and at Oldham Coliseum in their hugely popular pantomimes. Her TV credits include Coronation St and Warriors.
Come and support our local theatre, with profits from the production going into the upkeep costs of the theatre.
HLT’s AGM will be held at Studio 9 on October 22nd at 8pm.
All members are invited and encouraged to attend.
Due to the Summer break, our Tuesday night Studio 9 bar will be closed until Tuesday 4th September.
We look forward to welcoming you for a drink in September!

– – IMPORTANT INFORMATION – –
It is with deep regret that HLT have had to CANCEL our April production “Snake in the Grass” (April 18th -Sat 21st).
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. If you have booked tickets, please contact our ticket line for a full refund and the offer of complimentary tickets for our next play, Willy Russell’s ‘Blood Brothers’, (June 13th – 16th).
The decision to cancel was not taken lightly and due to an unavoidable set of circumstances, which HLT were unable to resolve in time to ensure we presented a production equal to our usual high standard, we have decided to cancel the production.
I sincerely hope that you will continue to support us at Hyde Little Theatre and look forward to seeing you all in June at the Festival Theatre for ‘Blood Brothers.’
